Today marks 45 days until I dive into married life. In the last blog post, I discussed my aggravation with the modern culture that surrounds weddings- a culture that worships, prepares for, and builds up one day, but disregards the eternal and lasting weight that a marriage yields. Weddings, in our culture, are more about the party, the Pinterest board-worthy decorations, and the cute pictures; and it is less about praying over one another, preparing to embark upon a Christ-glorifying journey, and a covenant before the Lord. Us bride-to-bes are so quick to take on all the latest diets, detox for weeks, and do everything possible to cut out the “bad” stuff that we might normally put into our bodies. However, there’s a lot of other wordly indulgences that isn’t always great for us to consume- especially when preparing for marriage.
For me, these things of the world that I sometimes obsessively consume are social media and Netflix. Therefore, over the remaining 45 days of my single life, I will be detoxing of these and investing in making myself the best wife and Christ-follower I can be. I encourage you all to pray about things of the world that you too can detox from, and replace with devouring the wholesome promises of the Word. There is so much growth that we can gain from devoting our time and energy more to our marriages (or soon-to-be marriages) and less on fruitless things of this world.
